Job Description
AECOM is seeking an initiative-taking principal geotechnical/civil engineer to support mine tailings and heavy mine tailings infrastructure as part of the Mining group in Reno, NV; Denver, CO; Phoenix, AZ; or Murray, UT. Remote/hybrid work options also available to qualified candidates located within the US West region.
Job Summary/Responsibilities
Provides leadership to the mining group in the areas of design, investigation, analysis, and construction of Tailings Dams and Mining projects
Provides independent technical review of multi-disciplinary review of Tailings Storage facilities including design, investigation, analysis, construction, process, and operations and signs off on work.
Develop clients, project proposals and works with mining business leader to support and grow Mining practice in tailings facilities and mine for leach projects.
Plans, directs, and supervises all operations included in large, complex projects or multiple moderately sized projects with greater risk and complexity, and significant fiscal impact
Preparing and presenting technical reports and presentations to project team, clients, regulators, and technical review boards.
Supervise preparation of technical reports, independent dam safety inspections, and potential failure mode analyses.
Conducting potential failure mode analyses and risk analyses for water storage and hydropower dams, including identifying and developing potential failure modes, and serving as subject matter expert in risk analysis workshops.
Develop project proposals and work with mining business leader to support and grow Mining practice
Provide direction to and mentoring to senior level staff
Performs independent technical reviews of engineering reports and design and signs off on work
May be responsible for Project teams that include 5 or more members often representing multiple disciplines including subcontractor(s)
Provide advice and consultation to client on engineering matters, including compliance with government laws and regulations
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
BA/BS + 10 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Professional Engineer (PE) license
Valid U.S Driver’s License
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s OR PhD in Civil Engineering or related field of study
20+ years or more of relevant experience
Progressive experience in tailings storage facility design, evaluation (e.g., PSHA analysis, material characterization, liquefaction, seepage, slope stability, and settlement analyses), construction, monitoring and operations
Experience with completing independent technical reviews and dam safety reviews
Progressive experience in leading multi- disciplinary projects
Risk analysis project experience
Business development for new and existing clients, prepare engineering services proposals, cost estimates, and schedules.
Must be a resourceful, highly organized professional with attention to people and detail
Strong commitment to ensuring safe project execution

Regional site travel required as needed (up to 30%).
Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position typically is $150,000 - $200,000. Please note that this role can be based anywhere in the United States and compensation data will vary in each location, including higher or lower than the stated range. .
