As part of a wider growth initiative linked to our strategic plan, we are currently seeking to appoint an individual to join our team as the Carbon & ESG Practice Lead. Reporting directly to and working closely with the Carbon & Advisory Director, you will be a key member of the Carbon & Advisory leadership team for the UK and Ireland (UK&I) region.
In this role, you will lead and manage the Carbon & ESG practice within the Carbon & Advisory team, with a specific focus on project delivery, resource management, work winning, and people management and engagement. About You
You are a highly motivated, organized, and proactive leader with a proven track record in the sustainability consultancy industry. Your deep understanding of the UK&I Environment and Sustainability consultancy market, coupled with your grasp of the social, political, and economic drivers that influence it, will be integral to your success in this role. With extensive experience in leading diverse teams in a fast-paced environment, you have excelled in planning, designing, and delivering projects while driving data-led performance improvements. As a leader you are responsible for fostering a culture of success, engagement, and development within the team while ensuring the successful management of projects from inception to completion.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, manage and grow the Carbon & ESG practice within the Carbon & Advisory team for the UK&I region.
Accountable for the performance of the Carbon & ESG practice versus the financial plan and outlook – key performance metrics being NSR Book to Burn, Gross Margin %, Cost Utilisation %, FTEs, and employee attrition.
Work with the Carbon & Advisory Director, and the Environment, Water & Energy Client and Sector teams to develop and implement a growth plan for the Carbon & ESG practice aligned to the Environment, Water & Energy Strategic Plan.
Champion a proactive approach to work winning by identifying new business opportunities, nurturing client relationships, and participating in proposal development.
Identify and engage with key stakeholders for client projects, establishing effective engagement strategies to ensure resources are available for projects.
Accountable for the accuracy of the Sources of Revenue for the Carbon & ESG practice, working with Operations to ensure that Salesforce is complete and accurate and that Project Data Quality % is achieved.
Drive project delivery excellence, ensuring projects are completed on time, on budget, and with high quality results.
Collaborate with project managers and technical experts to allocate resources effectively and optimise project performance.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver multi-disciplinary projects and programs, showcasing our excellence in work winning.

Lead by example by visibly driving SH&E culture, ensuring effective implementation of AECOM SH&E policies and procedures throughout the practice, and achievement of the SH&E core value metrics.
Foster career development and develop succession plans for key positions within the Carbon & ESG Practice.
Attract new talent and lead strategic and senior recruitment.
Drive change programs to increase efficiency, profitability, and operational quality within the team.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
Experience in senior leadership roles, preferably within sustainability consultancy.
Demonstrated success in developing, growing, leading, and motivating diverse, multi-disciplinary teams.
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Social Science, Environmental Science, Engineering, etc.) or equivalent relevant experience. Advanced degree preferred.
Proven experience in leading diverse teams and leading projects of varying scales.
Proven track record in developing and growing client relationships.
Strong understanding of sustainability sector, regulatory and policy frameworks, and socio-political drivers.
Demonstrated success in implementing change programs and driving data-driven performance improvements.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, presentation and negotiation skills.
Flexibility, proactive approach to work, and ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
Preferred Qualifications
Membership of a recognized professional body relative to our core markets.
Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriate Sustainability or Environmental related.
Strong track record of achieving/exceeding financial KPIs and driving business development.
Experience in leading teams to deliver sustainability focused projects across a wide range of sectors, including infrastructure, energy, transportation, and industrial.
Experience in leading and growing large teams and successful financial performance and business development/sales/growth experience in the public or private sectors.
