Job Description
Our team is looking for a specialist in construction materials (concrete, hydraulically bound materials, asphalt and aggregates) who is able to provide resilience to the pavement team.
The team is well respected as experts in their field and require an individual with sound technical abilities to help enhance and grow the team. The role is based from AECOM’s Nottingham office with our UKAS accredited laboratory and research facility. There is opportunity for flexible working under AECOM’s ‘freedom to grow’ policy. There may also be site-based activities which could involve travel.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
Working with a team of construction materials specialists and supporting the training and development of staff.
Supporting the wider pavement team to provide resilience.
Proactively communicating our offering across AECOMs business sectors and our clients to build. relationships and support AECOM in winning work through our unique team of materials specialists.
Pprioritising safety in design and delivery.
Providing specialist technical input to construction projects including materials selection, specification and non-conformance.
Developing and communicating AECOMs sustainable materials consultancy business offering together with the team.
The successful candidate will work under the guidance of the Principal and will be responsible for providing specialist support and input to a range of construction projects and research projects. Typical work includes working with design teams for material specifications and selection of appropriate materials, response to technical queries, testing requirements and review of results, investigating nonconformance and repair options, practical buildability considerations etc. Responsibility will include leading the delivery of projects.
Job Duties
The successful candidate will be experienced in delivering the following to a high level of confidence:
Working with the team to advise on sustainable materials with engagement with teams across AECOM and with material suppliers.
Technical knowledge of concrete and asphalt specifications, assessment, mixture design and conformity.
Working alongside design teams and authoring specifications for construction projects.
Delivering investigation reports, design projects and site supervision.
Delivering fieldwork projects including commercial and health and safety requirements.
Performs work in accordance with the agreed budget and schedule. Implementing the technical quality requirements, addressing the project brief and meeting client requirements.
Implementing the technical quality requirements, addressing the project brief and meeting the client delivery deadline.
Working as part of the wider pavement and materials team, liaising with laboratory and operations staff to understand and deliver the project technical brief. Supporting project managers and other team members.
Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations.
Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures, specifications or methods developed in previous assignments.
Specific Skills Required
Technical knowledge of concrete specifications, assessment, mixture design and conformity
Experience in assessment of materials sustainability, carbon modelling and recycling
Knowledge or experience of British and European Standards for concrete, aggregates, hydraulically bound mixtures
Experience in materials specification for construction works along with testing and conformity assessment
Experience of investigation projects for maintenance design and failure investigation of pavements and/or other asset types (essential).
Experience in materials production and installation (essential).
Working knowledge of the preparation of proposals and communication with clients
Knowledge of concrete exposure classes, cement types and concrete applications (essential).
