The IFC Latin America and the Caribbean Region is seeking an experienced professional as Resident Representative to join the team to help build IFCs activities across all industries in Peru. The position will be based in Lima, Peru, and will report to the IFC LAC Regional Directors.
Duties and Accountabilities:
Coordinate or provide influential input to the development of IFC and WBG strategies and diagnostics for assigned country or countries.
Recommend and promote upstream market creation approaches and interventions for assigned country and engage in discussions on needed market and regulatory reforms.
Lead (as resident representative) or oversee (as principal country officer) implementation of IFC/WBGs strategy for assigned country and integrated delivery of investment and advisory services to meet the needs of clients and advance the growth of IFC/WBG business into new markets.
Evaluate and provide advice and guidance to teams on the structuring and negotiation of highly complex transactions.
Share accountability for the quality and performance of the country portfolio.
Oversee operations of the assigned country office that includes managing or influencing the country office budget, security, and logistics.
Oversee or supervise assigned staff and consultants.
Develop assigned staff and members of the broader team through mentoring, coaching, providing on-the-job learning opportunities, and designing and delivering internal learning opportunities.
Ensure effective and efficient use of resources.
Strategically engage with and manage senior level relationships with key IFC stakeholders, counterparts in WBG, DFIs and international organizations, governments, and private sector clients and senior officials.
For Part 1 countries: Manage shareholder relationships, fundraising, donor and MDB coordination, and support for mobilization.
Selection Criteria
Master's degree in a related field and at least 10 years of experience. Related fields of education include business, finance, or economics or an area of expertise specific to a sector, subject matter, or industry specialty. Relevant experience could include a proven track record in business consulting or investment banking, or operational experience in the sector or technical or professional field.
Ability to initiate, guide and influence collaborative efforts with WBG organizations to leverage its products/instruments.
Has a reputation for being able to connect the dots across business strategies and portfolio management lessons learned to generate innovative ideas and solutions that can be replicated in other locations. Able to leverage expertise and reputation to connect IFC with opportunities to grow business and open new markets.
Credibility to engage with governments at the senior levels (e.g., ministers) and apply a political mindset to influence thinking and action on market and regulatory reforms in assigned countries to open doors to private sector investment.
Proven solid local market network and knowledge.
In-depth analytical, financial, credit, integrity assessment, and business skills to identify bankable projects with sustainable development impact as well as potential weaknesses in country portfolio and determine how to approach complex risk-reward trade-offs.
Sufficient analytical, financial, credit, integrity assessment, and business skills as well as strategic perspective to intuitively recognize project viability and attractiveness early on, identify portfolio management vulnerabilities, and determine best approaches for managing complex transaction and portfolio risks.
Ability to see the big picture of where sectors/ industries, regions, and or countries are currently, where they are heading and where IFC/WBG can play a role.
Strategic Business Perspective: Broad and strategic business perspective and ability to translate IFCs corporate and regional strategy and resources into business opportunities by applying proven track record in: Capacity to take full accountability to make things happen. Excellent business judgment in balancing the importance of bankability, development impact, risks, sustainability, and alignment with IFC country and sector strategies in structuring transactions and related negotiations. Ability to influence others based on understanding of the implications of investment decisions for IFCs business.
Negotiation Skills: Excellent negotiation and structuring skills demonstrated by proven track record. Is able to recognize when negotiations no longer serve IFCs interests and has the conviction to take appropriate actions to protect IFC, which could include walking away from deal or taking different positions on corporate actions.
Integrated Solutions: Recognized thought leader in offering integrated solutions to clients in the most challenging of circumstances and understanding which IFC policies need to be applied in certain circumstances to support client.
Business Promotion Initiatives: Ability to develop comprehensive, strategic, and competitive business promotion initiatives in a large country or countries to deliver project pipelines in new and emerging markets (including in FCS).
